RPX DELIVERED MEDICAL EQUIPMENT TO HEALTH FACILITIES 10/16/2016 Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan
RPX provided audiometers and small medical equipment to Family Medicine Centers in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Pure tone screening audiometer is simple, reliable equipment and has 92 % specificity in detecting ototoxicity hearing loss. TB DOTS room nurse learned how to use audiometer and can perform threshold screening audiogram for TB patients. RPX TB project delivered 6 audiometers to FMC and TB hospitals to improve DOTS treatment outcomes. RPX will continue audiometry training and will supply 5 audiometers in 2017.

UNITED STATES AMBASSADOR PAMELA L. SPRATLEN OPENED FOOD FOR PEACE PROGRAM IN UZBEKISTAN 09/14/2016 Tashkent, Uzbekistan
On Wednesday, September 14, 2016, the Ambassador of the United States to Uzbekistan, Pamela L. Spratlen; Deputy Minister of Health, Dr. Laziz Tuichiev; and Resource and Policy Exchange and Chairperson of the Board of the International NGO Charitable Foundation Sog’lom Avlod Uchun, announced the arrival of a new food aid shipment provided by the USAID International Food Relief Partnership Program. In cooperation with the Government of Uzbekistan and other partners RPX will distribute over 112 metric tons of enriched food aid to 21,200 people across Uzbekistan.
Representatives from four of Uzbekistan’s Ministries including Health, Public Education and Foreign Affairs, along with the U.S. Embassy, Resource and Policy Exchange, Inc. and other partners took part in announcing the sixth round of this food relief program. The program, which runs through June 2017, will provide nutritious food for children with disabilities, tuberculosis patients and patients in medical facilities. The current shipment, valued at $311,447 will be provided to residents of 139 local institutions, including the Muruvvat and Sahovat homes, and other specialized treatment facilities across Uzbekistan. The food assistance includes dried lentil blends enriched with vitamins and minerals that will be used to prepare soup for the residents of these institutions. Sog’lom Avlod Uchun will deliver the food aid to the recipient institutions and monitor their distribution.

Between February and May 2016, the U.S. nongovernmental organization, Resource and Policy Exchange (RPX), in collaboration with the Uzbek Charitable Organization Sog’lom Avlod Uchun, Kyrgyz Charitable Organization Ergene and Tajik Charitable Organization Avesto, conducted three round tables on Nutritional Care and Support for Patients with Tuberculosis. RPX is a USAID implementing partner for the International Food Relief Partnership Program (IFRPP) in Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. During the roundtables, the first of their kind in each country, representatives of four Ministries including Labor, Health, Justice and Foreign Affairs, along with the National TB and Lung Disease Center, the World Health Organization, Project Hope, the Global Fund, World Food Program, and Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) discussed the importance of an adequate diet, containing all essential macro- and micronutrients, for the well-being and health of all people, including those with TB. USAID’s IFRPP in Central Asia strives to reduce food insecurity among the most vulnerable groups, including children, women, patients with TB and mental illnesses, people with disabilities and elderly citizens. The enriched lentil soup mix is a nutritious meal which has become a staple in the diets of patients in dozens of Central Asian tuberculosis treatment facilities, mental health hospitals, children's institutions, and elderly care facilities. This food aid has allowed recipient facilities to supplement their meal provisions with more fresh fruits and vegetables, creating a balanced and nutritious diet.

Dr. Baburao Samudrala and Dr. Thati visited Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan on April 2015. RPX Executive Director Mathew Krzyston and U.S. medical team piloted medical supplies distribution at two primary health care facilities. U.S. doctors provided assistance to Kyrgyz family doctors.

Representatives of Uzbekistan’s Ministries of Social Protection, Health, Public Education and Foreign Affairs, and the US Embassy, and other partners took part in the announcement of this program. Through November 2015, the program will enhance nutrition among children with disabilities, tuberculosis patients, and patients of other medical facilities in Uzbekistan. The current shipment, valued at $311,44 will be provided to residents of 107 local institutions, including the Muruvvat and Sahovat homes, and specialized treatment facilities across Uzbekistan. The food aid includes mixes of dehydrated vegetable blends enriched with vitamins and minerals that will be used to prepare soup for the residents of these institutions. The ICNF Sog’lom Avlod Uchun will deliver the food supplies to the recipient institutions and monitor their distribution.

RPX Kyrgyzstan representative Dr. Talaigul Sabyrbekova, presented content of the first Gift in Kind shipment to program beneficiaries and discussed needs of Primary Health Care and TB facilities. RPX is a part of the program Defeat Tuberculosis and consortium led by Abt Associates, Inc. The Project will work on all levels of the health care sector with community and government, to improve TB case-finding and treatment results, through overall support to the National Tuberculosis Program in implementing the Den Sooluk-2020 Health Care Strategy on TB. The Project will support an overall shift to patient-centered care for tuberculosis. Program Goal: To reduce the burden of tuberculosis (TB) and the development of drug-resistant TB in the Kyrgyz Republic and support universal and equitable access to high quality TB services for vulnerable populations through a strengthened and sustainable health system.

Round table took place on March 31,2015 in Dushanbe. Resource and Policy Exchange and the local NGO partner Avesto announced humanitarian shipment arrival of enriched food supplies to enhance food security among tuberculosis patients.
USAID AND RPX DELIVERED 75,000KG FOOD PRODUCT TO KYRGYZSTAN 03/26/2015 Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the American non-governmental organization Resource & Policy Exchange (RPX) delivered 75,000kg of food products to the Kyrgyz Republic as part of the USAID Food for Peace Program. The program aims to enrich the diets of women and children in long-term treatment and care facilities, including residents of tuberculosis, psycho-neurological, and other social institutions. This year, the food products will be distributed to 66 institutions from all regions of the Kyrgyz Republic by Ergene Public Foundation. To start the distribution process, on March 26 RPX and Ergene hosted “Nutrition and Tuberculosis, Food Security of TB patients’ family "round table to discuss access to nutrition for TB patients and their families and recommended diet for TB patients. RPX AND USAID FOOD AID TO TAJIKISTAN CLINICS 07/02/2014 Dushanbe, Tajikistan
USAID’s office of Food for Peace (FFP) partners with US PVO Resource and Policy Exchange and the local NGO Avesto to distribute over 37 500 metric tons of enriched food supplies to over 22,000 people across Tajikistan. The purpose of this activity is to enhance food security among children with disabilities, tuberculosis patients, and other patients in health care facilities, including children's hospitals and nursing institutions, in Tajikistan. The current humanitarian shipment is valued at over $104,000 and is provided to residents of 67 facilities. The program improves nutritional and micronutrient status for hospitalized patients in 20 TB hospitals, children’s hospitals and nursing institutions. USAID Country Director Katie McDonald and Deputy Minister of Health and Social Protection NasimOlimov handed over 980 kg of dry lentil-vegetable mix to patients of Tajikistan's Republican TB Hospital.
RPX FACILITATED THE PARTICIPATION OF EXPERTS FROM HARVARD GLOBAL ONCOLOGY TEAM 05/30/2014 Minsk, Belarus
RPX facilitated the participation of experts from the Harvard Global Oncology team in an international conference in Minsk to address the opportunities and challenges of developing an accessible palliative care system in Belarus. The conference was organized as a result of two years of collaboration between RPX, Belarus Ministry of Health, Harvard Global Oncology, Belarusian NGO Revival–Start and Belarus Adult Hospice. Harvard experts presented lessons from the U.S. palliative care system most pertinent to the system in Belarus at this stage in its development. Major topics of discussion included: defining and distinguishing between palliative and hospice care; prognosis and life-expectancy assessments, tools for improving the accuracy of these assessments, and their effect on patient treatment decisions; the role of in-home care (e.g. oxygen therapy); appropriate medications; and the provision of palliative and hospice cares in hospitals and outpatient facilities. 100 medical professionals were trained during this event. Resource and Policy Exchange (RPX) currently implements USAID International Food Relief Programs (IRFP) in Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Under these programs, RPX delivers supplementary feeding supplies to long term hospital patients to improve their nutrition and food security status. RPX designed and launched evidence based nutrition education campaign to combat tuberculosis. RPX team find ourselves in the fortunate position to dramatically improve lives around the world. To address this challenge in 2013, RPX supported food security, health system strengthening and capacity building of local NGOs. RPX team are especially proud to have worked with local organizations in Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan as they set out on the path toward food security, distributing more than 200,000 kilograms of nutritious food to over 50,000 beneficiaries. We are also happy to report on our successful efforts to strengthen health systems in Uganda. We are deeply grateful to our diverse funding and implementing partners and the local health leaders with whom we work shoulder to shoulder. During a recent international exchange facilitated by RPX, women leaders from Belarus were received by Patricia Davis, who serves as the Director of Global Programs in the US State Department's Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, & Labor (DRL). During the meeting, Yelena Razladova and Irina Zhakar, civic leaders trained by RPX to advocate for women's rights, presented Davis with their model for women-led health policy reform in Belarus and discussed opportunities to apply the model in other regions.

Ambassador Ken Gross, Deputy Minister of Health Sohibnazar Rahmonov and Firuza Abdullaeva of the Tajik charitable organization ‘Avesto’ presented 9,800 kilograms of lentils and vegetable soup mix to patients at Tajikistan’s National TB Hospital today as a part of a United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funded program. USAID, in cooperation with Avesto and the American organization Resource and Policy Exchange, Inc. (RPX), has distributed over 37 metric tons of enriched food supplies to date to over 22,000 people across Tajikistan.
RPX AND USAID DELIVER TWO MILLION MEALS IN KYRGYZSTAN: Women, children, mentally disabled receive emergency food aid 12/16/2008 Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan
Representatives of RPX, USAID and the Government of Kyrgyzstan announced the arrival of 40 metric tons of US donated food assistance to the people of Kyrgyzstan during a press conference at the Ministry of Labor and Social Development in Bishkek on Wednesday. The donated food, manufactured by Breedlove Dehydrated Foods (Lubbock TX) arrived shortly after the UN announced a dangerous winter food shortage in the mountainous Former Soviet republic. RPX and local partner organization Public Foundation Ergene will distribute food to 24 institutions throughout Kyrgyzstan, focusing on the nutritional needs of women, children, and patients with chronic mental illnesses. RPX is delivering a similar food donation to the neighboring Republic of Tajikistan.

RPX Chairman John Leddy joined Rotary volunteers to present a $242,640 donation of essential medicines to Arturo Grullon Children's Hospital in Santiago. RPX also provided 30 otoscopes and the latest pharmaceutical manuals to enable effective prescribing practices. The delivery was made possible with shipping support from US non-profit organization, Ayudamos Carib of Petoskey, Michigan. Gift in kind donations were generously provided by Project HOPE, Bristol Myers Squibb, Dr. Mom Otosopes and Wolters Kluwer publishing.

RPX assisted Public Fund Ergene in the analysis of palliative services for cancer patients and psycho-oncology development in Kyrgyzstan. Results of the analysis were presented at the International Psycho-Oncology Society (IPOS) World Congress in Madrid from June 9-13. RPX promotes the provision of palliative care for late stage oncology patients as a basic human right. Next steps under this campaign include developing cost effective palliative services for implementation in Central Asia.
